Benefits
• Provides a herbal rosemary scalp conditioning experience when used in scalp toners and hair rinses, contributing the water-soluble plant compounds from rosemary to the scalp surface through the aqueous water phase.
• Batch microbial data: Total Microbial Count less than 10 cfu/ml and Total Yeast/Mould less than 10 cfu/ml. Both results are well within specification — one of the strongest microbial results in the CSW hydrosol range.
• Batch pH 3.98 confirmed: The naturally acidic pH of this rosemary hydrosol is compatible with Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) formulations, acidic scalp toner systems, and Sodium Benzoate preservation. The acidic pH also provides a mild scalp-toning effect consistent with the low-pH scalp care positioning.
• Water-soluble and fully compatible with aqueous cosmetic systems, enabling straightforward incorporation as a water phase replacement in shampoos, scalp serums, hair mists, and toners at usage levels from 5 to 100%.
• The herbal rosemary aroma at hydrosol concentration is softer and more subtle than the essential oil, making it appropriate for daily-use scalp care and hair mist formulations where a light herbal scent is preferred over an intense EO fragrance.
• Compatible with humectants, botanical extracts, mild surfactants, and preservative systems, and particularly well-suited to Sodium Benzoate preservation.
How to Use
As Scalp Toner: Use at 80 to 100% of the toner formula. Add actives such as Niacinamide or Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5). Add a broad-spectrum preservative at 0.5 to 1% of total formula weight. The acidic pH is compatible with Sodium Benzoate as a preservative option.
As Hair Mist: Use at 50 to 95% of the water phase in leave-in hair mist formulations. The herbal rosemary aroma is commercially appealing in Indian hair care ranges. Add humectants (glycerin at 2 to 5%) and a preservative before packaging.
As Hair Rinse: Dilute 1 part Rosemary Hydrosol with 1 to 2 parts water. Use as a final rinse after shampooing. Apply to scalp and hair, leave for 1 to 2 minutes, and rinse with cool water.
In Shampoo Water Phase: Replace 10 to 30% of the distilled water in the shampoo water phase with Rosemary Hydrosol. The pH (3.98) is compatible with most shampoo formulation systems. The preservative system in the finished shampoo will protect the hydrosol component.
Preservation — Mandatory: Rosemary Hydrosol is water-based and microbiologically active despite the excellent batch microbial results. Any finished product must include a broad-spectrum preservative. Given the batch pH of 3.98 (below 5.0), Sodium Benzoate is a viable and effective preservation option alongside Phenoxyethanol/Ethylhexylglycerin systems.

Pairs Well With
Rosemary Essential Oil used alongside Rosemary Hydrosol in a scalp care system creates a dual-form botanical treatment where the hydrosol provides the water phase at full concentration and the essential oil is diluted in a carrier oil at 0.5 to 1% for a complementary pre-wash scalp oil. Two distinct Rosmarinus officinalis products that serve different formulation functions.
Peppermint Essential Oil dissolved in a carrier oil and used alongside Rosemary Hydrosol creates a classic herbal-cooling scalp care system. The hydrosol provides the water-phase scalp toner; the peppermint and rosemary EO blend provides the oil-phase scalp oil.
Niacinamide dissolved in Rosemary Hydrosol at 2 to 5% creates a multi-active scalp toner combining the herbal character of the hydrosol with the pore-minimising and sebum-regulating function of niacinamide. Relevant for scalp toners targeting oily scalp and enlarged pores.
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) at 1 to 3% in Rosemary Hydrosol creates a conditioning hair mist with herbal freshness alongside the moisture-retaining and hair-strengthening function of panthenol.
Hyaluronic Acid dissolved in Rosemary Hydrosol at 0.1 to 1% creates a hydrating scalp serum that combines the humectant moisture-binding function with the herbal conditioning character of the rosemary water phase.
