Solid content is 70 percent minimum as supplied, with a COA available on request. It suits facial cleansers, sulphate free shampoo, baby care, cold process formulas, and as a natural alternative to polysorbate solubilisers. Small and bulk order sizes are available, shipped from Bengaluru across India. Available at cosmysupplies.com.

INCI: Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside | Origin: Vegetable derived (glucose and C8/C10 fatty alcohols) | Grade: Cosmetic | Form: Pale yellow viscous liquid

Functions: Cleansing | Surfactant | Solubilising | Emulsifying | Foam Boosting | Skin Conditioning

Used In: Facial Cleanser | Sulphate Free Shampoo | Baby Care | Body Wash | Micellar Water | Leave-On Rinse-Off Hybrid | Cold Process Formulation | Foaming Aromatherapy Product | Wet Wipe

Sulphate Free | Plant Based | Mild | Solubiliser | Cold Process | Biodegradable | Nonionic

Benefits

•      Functions as a mild nonionic surfactant that cleanses skin and hair gently without the defatting action of anionic surfactants, leaving a soft, non-stripped after-feel.

•      Acts as a natural solubiliser for essential oils, fragrance oils, and carrier oils in water based systems, reducing or eliminating the need for polysorbate based solubilisers in low oil-load formulas.

•      Produces both flash foam on contact and denser background foam when blended with longer chain glucosides, giving formulators control over the foam profile of a sulphate free system.

•      Cold process compatible, remaining pourable and workable at lower temperatures where longer chain glucosides such as Decyl Glucoside can solidify or become gritty.

•      Works as a primary or secondary surfactant, with a wide dosage range from 0.5 percent as a solubiliser up to 20 percent as a primary cleansing surfactant.

•      CIR Expert Panel assessed 19 alkyl glucosides including Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside as safe in present practices of use and concentration when formulated to be non-irritating.

•      Readily biodegradable, derived entirely from renewable plant sources (glucose from starch and C8/C10 fatty alcohols from vegetable oil), supporting natural origin and eco-conscious product positioning.

•      Non-ionic charge makes it compatible with anionic, amphoteric, and cationic surfactants and actives, giving formulators wide system flexibility without compatibility concerns.

Applications

In a sulphate free facial cleanser or cleansing gel, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside provides gentle cleansing with a foam that rinses quickly and completely. Its shorter carbon chain produces a lighter, more aqueous lather than coco or lauryl glucoside, which suits a face wash where thorough rinse feel matters.

As a solubiliser in a toner, facial mist, or micellar water, it disperses up to 1 to 2 percent of essential oil or fragrance into a clear water base without the need for a separate polysorbate. This simplifies the INCI declaration and keeps the formula short, which is increasingly important for clean beauty positioning.

In a cold process formulation, it remains fluid and easy to incorporate at room temperature, which is its practical advantage over Decyl Glucoside. This makes it the preferred glucoside for energy-efficient production runs and for formulators who do not want to heat the water phase.

In a foaming aromatherapy product or bath foam, it serves both as the cleansing surfactant and the essential oil carrier in a single ingredient, making it particularly practical for simple formula development where multifunctional ingredients reduce complexity.

In a baby care cleanser or body wash, it blends with amphoteric surfactants to build a gentle, stable foam. It is nonionic, which avoids charge-related irritation in a formula designed for very mild systems. The finished formula must be adjusted to skin pH, which the formulator controls with citric acid.

In a wet wipe solution or leave-on rinse-off hybrid, it is used at low levels as a gentle surfactant that removes light soiling without disrupting the skin barrier. The low foam at these concentrations is well suited to wipe applications where foam is not desirable.

How to Use

As a primary surfactant in a facial cleanser or body wash

Add to the water phase at room temperature. It remains fluid and workable without heating, which is its cold process advantage. Combine with a betaine or amphoteric co-surfactant to round out the foam profile and improve mildness. Adjust the finished formula to your target pH with citric acid before adding heat-sensitive actives or fragrance.

As a solubiliser for essential oil or fragrance

For clear formulations with up to 1 to 2 percent essential oil, pre-mix the oil into the Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside at roughly a 3 to 4 times excess before adding to the water base. The exact ratio depends on the specific oil and your target clarity. Trial in your formula before scaling.

As a co-surfactant

At 1 to 5 percent it softens stronger anionic systems and adds a solubilising function without significantly changing the foam character. This is the range to use when building on an SLES or SMCT base and want to add natural origin positioning and essential oil compatibility.

pH adjustment note (required)

As supplied, the liquid is highly alkaline (pH 11.5 to 12.5 in a 20% solution). The finished formula must be adjusted to the target skin pH using citric acid. Do not use the concentrate near the eye area at working concentration. Handle with standard eye protection.

Pairs Well With

Cocamidopropyl Betaine
rounds out the foam profile of a glucoside base. Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside produces flash foam and CAPB adds density and stability. The ratio sets the final foam character of your cleanser, and the split between them shifts with the target pH and fragrance load.

Decyl Glucoside blends with CCG to build a more complete glucoside foam profile. Where CCG contributes flash foam and solubilising function, Decyl Glucoside adds body and mildness depth. The combination is used in many commercial baby and sensitive skin cleansers.

Coco Glucoside and CCG together give a broader carbon chain distribution that balances foam, cleansing, and skin feel. The pair suits a body wash or shampoo where both quick lather and a conditioning rinse feel are needed.

Betaine Powder adds humectancy and a mild film forming effect to a glucoside base. At low levels in a face wash or micellar water it improves the skin feel without adding surfactant load.

Every water based formulation containing CCG at cleansing levels needs preservation. Euxyl PE 9010 provides broad spectrum preservation compatible with nonionic surfactant systems, dosed within the supplier recommended band.

Citric Acid Monohydrate is the pH adjustment tool for every formula containing this ingredient. As supplied, the liquid is highly alkaline. pH correction with citric acid is not optional. The dose required depends on your water, your other ingredients, and your target pH.
